Admissions Testing Info

SAT and ACT

Most colleges require ACT or SAT scores as part of the admission process. The ACT and SAT are both national standardized tests designed to help colleges determine the test taker's level of college readiness and potential for academic success. In addition, the ACT and SAT give colleges a data point they can use to compare applicants. Meaning students’ test scores are used to determine their rank in each school’s national pool of applicants. For this reason, the higher the test score you receive, the more likely you are to be admitted into the college of your choice.

The SAT and/or ACT are typically taken the second half of a student's Junior year through the first semester of their Senior year. Please see more information on this coming year's testing dates and locations below.

Students on free and reduced lunch may qualify for SAT and ACT testing vouchers, please see the school counselor, Ms. Hansen for details.

Testing Scores Waived by USG for 2021!

SAT and ACT testing requirements have been waived for Spring, Summer, and Fall 2021 by the University System of Georgia (USG). Therefore, students applying to any in state public university for Spring, Summer, or Fall 2021 will NOT need to take the SAT/ACT or submit scores. If a student is applying to a private or out of state school, SAT/ACT test scores may still be required. Please check directly with all of the schools you or your student is applying to for more information regarding their 2021 SAT/ACT requirements.
An SAT score of 1200 or an ACT composite score of 26 will still be required for students aiming to receive the Zell Miller Scholarship.

Accuplacer

The Accuplacer is the admissions test for Georgia's technical colleges. Each technical college sets its own minimum score for admissions. If a student has taken the Accuplacer for Dual Enrollment courses and scored high enough to meet the technical college's admissions requirements, the student should not need to take the Accuplacer again. However, admission requirements should always be checked with the student's institution of choice.

West Georgia Technical College Douglas Campus offers the Accuplacer every Wednesday from 8 am to 4 pm on WGTC in the Student Center. The test is free for first-time testers.

ASVAB  The Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery To enlist in the military, you must take the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery otherwise known as the ASVAB and receive a qualifying score on your Armed Forces Qualifications Test or AFQT. The AFQT score is based on your performance in the areas of Paragraph Comprehension, Word Knowledge, Mathematics Knowledge, and Arithmetic Reasoning and will determine your eligibility to enlist in the various branches of the military. Each branch of the military sets a minimum score so check with the branch you are interested in to know the specific score you need to enlist in that branch.

The individual branches also use the ASVAB to determine what military occupational specialties (MOS) you qualify for. Each specialty has different required scores in specific sections of the ASVAB. More information on scoring, including which sections of the test are used to score each specialty, can be found by visiting goarmy.com If you are interested in joining the military and would like to be scheduled to take the ASVAB, please see the counselor.
